A look at the Schedule and Festival Information for 2004

Where in the world are we? You probably don't want to know. But if you're adventurous (or just plain bored), take out an atlas. Find Canada. Look way up and way left. See Whitehorse? Keep going. Trace the mighty Yukon River to the Klondike delta. Welcome to the village of the City of Dawson, home of the most northerly film festival in North America!

Some of the highlights...? Northern lights. Weeks of minus 50 degrees Celsius in the winter. 24 hour daylight in the summer. A bar affectionately known as the Snake Pit. A relatively classless society where young and old, employed and unemployed, artist, labourer, professional and slacker intermingle dressed alike in gumboots, long johns and parkas; and all would rather be nowhere on earth than in this unique community in the remote northwest. And, of course, we still mine gold. Gold! In other words - "an outer world that succinctly embodies our visions of heaven and hell through its unique combination of hospitable down-hominess and unabashed lunacy. Think Fitzcarraldo meets the Waltons".
