Karen
has had a long history of involvement with the arts. She was a founding
member of and long time volunteer for the renowned Dawson City Music
Festival and has served on many arts related boards and committees.
In 1999, she took a break from her position as an adult educator at
Yukon College to become the Programs Manager for KIAC’s first
three years. When she returned to the College, she assisted with the
administration of the Arts for Employment program, and the development
of the KIAC School of Visual Arts curriculum and program design. Karen
joined KIAC as Executive Director in May 2008. She is a 3rd generation
Dawsonite –and has raised two 4th generation Dawsonites. |

Tara grew up in Toronto, received a BFA from ECIAD in Vancouver
and has wandered around some random countries and small towns since
then. Over the past 5 years she has been involved with KIAC as a
volunteer, exhibiting artist, student and board member. Now she
has a desk with a nice lamp. Tara continues to work in photography,
installation, sewing, drawing, crochet and her garden. |

Born in Cumberland,
British Columbia, Lance comes to Dawson City by way of Victoria, Montreal,
Las Cruces, New Mexico and most recently Vancouver, where he was the
Director/Curator of the Helen Pitt Gallery from 2005 to 2008. Lance
has worked as a writer, curator, teacher and artist for the past 15
years. He is the author of a number of books including Walkups,
a novella set entirely in different Montreal apartments and Corner
Pieces, a collection of urban fictions and public text projects.
His work has been featured in publications internationally, as well
as on CBC radio and in exhibitions in Canada, the United States, Europe
and Australia. In his spare time, Lance enjoys self-medicating with
large quantities of Brazilian tropicalia music and spicy food. |
Having quit
her government job in Saskatchewan from a restaurant payphone in favour
of working in some of Dawson City’s most glamorous nightspots,
Jenna began her tumultuous love affair with Dawson City in 2004.
Jenna studied Art History at the University of Saskatchewan and before
working at KIAC, spent several years on the Dawson City Arts Society
Board of Directors. When Jenna isn’t administrating art, her
hobbies include lying in hammocks and eating soft cheeses.

Kerry Barber is from Dawson City, Yukon and is
Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in. She’s made 5 films
and her last one; My Indian Bum has won an award in the Made In
The Yukon - Emerging Talent Award at the Dawson City International
Short Film Festival. The film has traveled all over Canada and has
been to Albuquerque, New Mexico at the Talking Stick Film Festival.
She has taken many courses and workshops in filmmaking and now she
wants to know everything there is to know about film. Next she is
going to Emily Carr University of Art + Design in the Film + Media
Arts program in 2010 transferring from the University of Winnipeg.
Dawson City is her hometown and she loves it! She is very grateful
to be working with KIAC again. Gone since December 2007 and now
back June 2009, she has a lot to catch up on! |
Yet another transplaced Ontarian,
Dan attended the 1st Dawson City International Short Film Festival
as a visiting filmmaker. 8 years later, after many return trips as
KIAC Artist in Residence, ad hoc teacher and other sundry jobs, he
and his partner Laurie are back for his 2nd try at the film festival...
and he may just stick around until he gets it right.
Dan continues to thrive in obscurity as a filmmaker and has just finished
